Emeritus Prof Steven Schwartz AM

Chair of the Board, Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)

Emeritus Professor Steven Schwartz AM is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies and Board Director at several companies. 

He has held academic positions in the USA, the UK and Australia, and has served as vice chancellor of three universities: Macquarie University in Sydney, Brunel University in London, and Murdoch University in Perth. In 2004.

Steven chaired the national inquiry into university admissions in England. Before joining ACARA, he was Executive Director of the Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS).  He also served for three years as Chair of the Fulbright Commission in Australia and as an Ausaid representative on the Council of the University of the South Pacific. He is a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Royal Society Exchange Fellow, Oliver Smithies Fellow of Oxford University, a NATO Fellow, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also the author of 12 books and over 120 journal articles.
