Dr Geoff Sharrock

MTEM Program Director

Dr Geoff Sharrock is Program Director of the Master of Tertiary Education Management (MTEM) program, having joined the LH Martin Institute in 2008.

He has wide experience in public administration and management consulting. In his early career Geoff worked for 10 years with the Victorian Government, in the Public Service Board, the Department of Treasury and Finance, and other agencies.

Geoff became interested in university management while working at RMIT University in its Human Resource Development group. He completed his PhD in 2005 on the topic of leading change in universities.

Geoff's current research interests focus on university strategy, workplace culture, change leadership and management practices, and ideas and images of the university as a social institution. He enjoys teaching management theory and consulting with practitioner groups on the practical applications of different theories of organisation and management.

Before entering academia Geoff also worked for 10 years as a private management consultant, and in that time developed a suite of consulting tools for group based inquiry and action planning.

During this time he worked as an adviser on the ‘Growing Esteem’ strategy development project at the University of Melbourne (2005–2006) and as a project manager on the Baker-IDI medical research institute merger in Melbourne (2007–2008).
