Executive Leadership & Management in International Education

This interactive program is jointly developed with the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) for current and aspiring international education leaders. Participants will be given insights into the visionary, entrepreneurial, strategic and executive level leadership and management skills required to ensure their institutions’ continuing success in international education.
The program features high-level guest speakers who are leading practitioners and with whom participants will engage through a range of short presentations, case studies, facilitated interactive discussions and group work. Participants are expected to engage in preparatory work, to develop a group presentation on a key issue and to prepare a short individual leadership plan.
Who should attend?
Designed for senior and middle level managers in higher education and VET institutions who have, or who are preparing themselves to undertake, a leadership role in international education. Participants may include Directors/Deans International, as well as academic and professional staff responsible for the planning, management and delivery of international education programs.
Delivery mode
The program consists of three non-residential modules, each lasting for three days.

Program fee
$2,500 per module ($2,750 incl. GST) or $7,000 for all modules if booked at the same time ($7,700 incl. GST).
Program fee does not include accommodation.

There will also be a continuation of the very popular ‘Vice-Chancellor’ sessions--one per module-- where three Vice-Chancellors outline their own leadership journey and provide the opportunity to engage in deep discussion with them on the leadership and management.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing this program, participants will be better placed to effectively argue the case for ‘international’ both within and outside the institution. They will have obtained up-to-date insights on key policy drivers in competitivemarkets and how these are dealt with at the coalface.
Importantly, participants will also have greater understanding of how to effectively lead and manage including developing teams and implementing change in a volatile environment. They will have a greater understanding of project management in action and further developed analytical and assessment skills.
Credit towards postgraduate courses
This program may be used to earn credit towards postgraduate courses offered by the LH Martin Institute, which include the Graduate Certificate in Quality Assurance and the Master of Tertiary Education Management. Program facilitator
Professor Graham Webb is a former Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of New England in Australia where he had overall responsibility for the academic activities of the University and acted as Vice-Chancellor for extended periods. His previous career includes eleven years at Monash University in Australia where he was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Quality) and CEO of Monash College Pty Ltd (a wholly owned company of the University comprising six educational businesses); eleven years at the University of Otago in New Zealand; six years at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica; and, seven years at the University of Ulster in Ireland. He holds the qualifications of BA Honours, MSc, PhD with distinction and PGCE. Graham is author or editor of 9 books and numerous book chapters and journal articles concerning the theory and practice of teaching and learning in higher education, organisational and staff development. He is an Editorial Advisory Board member for five international journals. Graham has played an active role internationally in quality assurance and improvement. He chaired the first and subsequent audits for the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) and is a trainer, auditor or consultant for national accreditation and audit agencies in six countries. In 2008 he received the Australian Higher Education Quality Award. Graham is retained as senior advisor to a number of higher education providers and consultancies and undertakes mainly academic quality related consultancies on a part-time basis. He retains an Adjunct Professorial appointment at the University of New England.
Helen Cook is the Vice-President of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). In addition to being a member of the IEAA Executive, Helen chairs the IEAA PD Committee and the IEAA Awards Committee and contributes regularly to the monthly e-newsletter, VISTA.
Helen is an international education practitioner, project manager, consultant and researcher with over 20 years experience in international education. She is a former Executive Director of QUT International in Brisbane. Helen has tertiary qualifications in Arts, Education and Business. She is currently the Associate Director Client Relations (Australia) for TOEFL, the most widely available global English language proficiency test.
