Leo Goedegebuure and Ian Marshman in the latest CEDA report on Service Sector Productivity

29 June 2017

The Improving service sector productivity: the economic imperative report from CEDA was launched in Melbourne on Tuesday, 27 June 2017 at the Sofitel on Collins with speakers including LH Martin Institute Honorary Senior Fellow Helen Zimmerman, and the Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education's Associate Professor Ian Marshman.

CEDA's latest report looks at the service sector and its productivity within the context of the two economic revolutions currently reshaping Australia's economy.

The first is the industrial revolution centred in Asia and sees the rapid migration of manufacturing from high-income countries to emerging markets. An influx of workers to global manufacturing has dramatically increased supply of goods and triggered a period of structural change. For Australia, this means an increasing dependence on their service industries for economic growth.

The second revolution of digitalisation of information and communication technologies is further accelerating Australia's shift from manufacturing to services and is exposing the widening range of service industries to global competition.

Professor Leo Goedegebuure along with fellow author Associate Professor Ian Marshman feature a chapter in the report 'Australian university productivity; some food for thought' which discusses the current state of play in Australian Universities from the revenue side, cost management efficiency and the effectiveness of policy framework.

Honorary Senior Fellow and Navitas Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Helen Zimmerman, along with LH Martin Institute alumnus Maria Spies and Kadi Taylor from Navitas also feature in the report with their chapter on 'Education enabling productivity in services industries'.
