Study on the Quality of Teaching in VET

The LH Martin Institute at the University of Melbourne is undertaking a project to research and make recommendations on the factors that affect the quality of vocational education and training (VET) teaching. This will include VET teacher qualifications and continuing professional development; the impact teaching has on the quality of the VET student experience and student outcomes; and how this can be evaluated. The project is funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), and is managed by the Australian College of Educators (ACE).

The Changing Academic Profession

The LH Martin Institute, in collaboration with the Centre for Higher Education Policy and Management (CHEMP) and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) is conducting a project to examine the nature and extent of the changes experienced by the academic profession in recent years. The project explores both the reasons for and the consequences of these changes. It will consider the implications of the changes for the attractiveness of the academic profession as a career and for the ability of the academic community to contribute to the further development of knowledge societies.

VET Leaders in Times of Change

Anticipating the need for a more comprehensive VET leadership framework, the LH Martin Institute in collaboration with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and John Mitchell & Associates conducted a comprehensive and national quantitative survey of VET leaders from August to October 2009. The research captures the ideas, attitudes and capabilities of VET leaders just as they were moving through this fundamental period of change.

Consultancy

The LH Martin Institute has links with the sector through leadership programs and consultancy services to institutions and governments on strategic planning, policy and management development in both Australia and Asia. It is the ideal setting, both scholarly and practically oriented, in which senior education managers, public servants, policy analysts and researchers can come together to explore the leadership and management implications of the changing environment and policy framework.
